On Friday we decided to head off to Newcastle to visit Cameron’s dad in hospital. We booked a room at Apollo International Hotel in Newcastle using a site we always use. The site is called wotif, basically all you have to do type the details of when you want to go, how many people and the location of where you want to stay and it automatically finds the cheapest most suitable hotels in that area within seconds!
The trip up there from Sydney to Newcastle took us 2 hours. We planned to drive straight to the hotel and unpack, settle in, feed and change the baby then drive up to the hospital. The hotel was on a main road so it was easy to find, as we pulled into the hotel car park we realised how big the place was. It was huge! The views from the car park were amazing. We went inside and checked in. Our hotel room was a spacious king size room overlooking a natural bushland reserve setting. The room had a king bed with a comfortable pillow top, a sitting area, split system air conditioning, a fantastic balcony with an outdoor setting, walk in shower, tv and a baby cot set up for us. There was also free wifi and a desk with an internet connection for people needing to use their laptop.
Usually every time we go to a hotel it’s a pain in the butt setting up the portacot. This time we requested one and they set it up for us.
The soaps in the hotel bathroom smelt delicious. They’re from a brand Natural Earth. The packaging is recycled and recyclable. Each product contains manuka honey and were presented on a wooden display stand.
After we had a look around our hotel room and the views from our balcony we fed and changed Brooke, than we drove to John Hunter hospital. We didn’t tell Cameron’s dad we were coming, we wanted to surprise him. So we went to the front desk of the hospital to ask for the ward and room number. It was great to see him again and see how he was recovering after his operation. I also met Cameron’s brother and his wife Jonathan and Zara. I changed Brooke at home before we went and i didn’t think to bring the nappy bag which was very dumb because she did a very big stinky poo! I had to race down to the chemist downstairs which was open till late and bought some nappies and wipes.
After visiting hours finished we headed back to the hotel. Brooke had a bottle and went straight to sleep while me and Cameron had a few drinks. The next morning Brooke woke up as a happy little bee, sitting up in her cot playing with a rattle and her blankets.
We all had showers and got dressed. Brooke had a long one and had the time of her life. She wasn’t sure at first as she was crawling in the walk-in shower. Our baby is getting so chubby.
Brooke finished off her breakfast while i dressed her. This pouches of baby food are great. They’re for on the go and ready to eat. I give her the porridge ones on mornings we are out and about. They are quick and easy plus the baby loves them.
All dressed and ready for the day. Before we had to check-out at 10am we took some photos together. We got everything together and put it in the car and went back to Sydney.
This was our first time going to Newcastle as a family, and my first time being there. It was a nice little get away and the drive was beautiful, going past lots of bushland and water.
Has anyone been to Newcastle or can recommend places to go for next time?
